NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – The groundhog saw his shadow, so there are at least six more weeks of winter ahead, but the Whitin Community Center is thinking summer. Registration for the many programs of Camp Whitin begins Tuesday, Feb. 7 for members and Monday, Feb. 13 for non-members.
Camps include full day for children ages 7 to 13, half-day for children ages 4 to 6; travel days for children 7 to 13, counselor-in-training for children 14 and 15; and extended care for children 7 to 13.
Full-day camp is co-ed and runs from June 25 through Aug. 24 and week-long programs include Dodgeball Madness, Babysitters ‘R Us, Hoop Dreamz Basketball, Design-Build-Destroy, and Game Camp. Cost ranges from $170 for members, $225 non-members with additional cost for extended day care for non-members.
Half-day camps are co-ed and week-long programs include Triple B’s (butterflies, buts and blossoms), Tiny Tykes Wiffleball, Happy Feet Soccer and All About the Ocean. Half-day cost is $90 for members, $115 non-members with an additional cost for extended day care.
The camp also includes four trips and a day at the center. Trips include Tri-State Speedway, Mystic Aquarium, Breezy Picnic Grounds Waterslides, and Pawtucket Red Sox. Costs, depending on destination, range from $25 for members to $65 for non-members.
The counselors-in-training program is for incoming high school freshmen and sophomores interested in learning how to work in a camp setting. After completing the two-week program, participants who performed exceptionally well will have the opportunity to return and work for a few weeks as a paid junior counselor.
A $50 non-refundable deposit is required for each full week of camp at the time of registration. The balance is due by June 4.
