MILLBURY, Mass. - The Millbury High School girls basketball team rode a quick start enroute to a big win 47-29 over Northbridge High girls team Thursday night in Millbury.

The big player of the night was senior forward Megan Crain who lead all scorers with 12 points but provided a physical presence at both ends of the court. She set up the Lady Woolies with big rebounds as well as providing a deft scoring touch from outside.

Millbury raced out to a quick 16-3 lead in the opening period utilizing some nice passing that saw them move the ball around well and finding the open shot from the perimeter. They pressured the Lady Rams on defense and forced them into low percentage shots that had them stifled.

Mikaela Bernard hit a pair of free throws for Northbridge to narrow the lead to 16-5,  but the Lady Woolies hit a bucket near the buzzer to put Millbury up 18-5 after one.

The second period was more of the same as Millbury dominated on defense and used the scoring of Crain, who scored all of her points in the first half and Molly McCausland. The Woolies led by a score of 31-11 at the break.

The Lady Rams would make a little push at the start of the second half lead by Sarah Boucher, but overall they had trouble all game hitting shots, and though they outscored Millbury 10-8 for the quarter, they still trailed after 3 periods, 39-21.

The beginning of the fourth would see a 8-0 Millbury run that put the game away. After two free throws by McCausland, Rebecca Thornburg stole the inbound pass for an easy layup to make it 43-29. Thornburg then made a nice drive to net for another two, followed by a shot from the perimeter that hit nothing but net.

The Lady Rams' Shelby Quill then hit a few free throws along with a nice shot from the top of the key, but it too little too for Northbridge.

Besides Crain, Millbury got nine points from McCausland and freshman Alex Pariseau who provided some nice play from the backcourt. Northbridge's leading scorers were Sarah Boucher with 7 points and Casey Boucher with 6.
